The WTO has selected Eric Andrew, Nigeria, founder and team lead at agricultural non-profit AgrofixiNG, along with seven other candidates around the world to form the first cohort of its Young Trade Leaders Programme, which lasts one year, starting from August 7.
• Others are: Phoebe Britten, Australia, youth advocate and Founder and CEO of Inspire Tomorrow Education
• Hugh Jones, Canada, young lawyer in international trade
• Yassine Krouk, France, bachelor’s student in political science at Sciences Po Lille
• Sunny Li, China, young professional in international relations
• Florencia Mastrorilli, Argentina, young lawyer in international trade
• Nasubila Ng’ambi, Malawi, researcher in international trade law
• Elina Sultanbekova, Kyrgyz Republic, bachelor’s student in international relations
In a statement, WTO said that the beneficiaries emerged after a rigorous selection process, from almost 2,000 applications from six continents.
They were selected on the basis of their background and experience, and the strength of their application.
The training programme is a new initiative aimed at fostering a better understanding of the WTO’s work and international trade among young people.
It will promote a better understanding of the WTO’s role in supporting international trade, etc.

Eric Andrew is working to drive sustainable, equitable economic growth and climate action among young people and marginalized populations in northern Nigeria.
He is the founder and Team Lead of AgrofixiNG, a nonprofit in Nigeria, successfully implementing solutions in agriculture and the circular economy. Through AgrofixiNG, Eric supports young people, women, girls, and smallholder farmers, providing entrepreneurship and skill development opportunities, climate-smart technologies, waste-to-resource production systems in agriculture, and increased market access.
Eric has contributed to the success of projects, research studies, and policy advocacy including those supported by Mastercard Foundation, USAID, Sasakawa Africa Association, Cloneshouse,Bridge Connect Africa Initiative, and Gatesfield.He is interested in pursuing a career in international trade and development economics, to shape policies and strategies for developingcountries to foster economic growth and thrive in the face of a changing climate.
