President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

His tenure, which was due to expire in August 2025, will now run until August 2026

The Presidency says that the extension will allow Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key projects, including the modernisation of Customs operations, the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

In a statement signed by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Adeniyi’s leadership and expressed confidence that the extension would further strengthen trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security in the country.

Bashir Adewale Adeniyi was first appointed as Comptroller General of Customs in October 2023 and only last month, he was elected Chairperson of the Council of the World Customs Organisation , the highest decision making body of the global customs community.
