The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has jailed Robert Orya, a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) and honorary president of the Global Network of Export-Import Banks and Development Finance Institution, for having pocketed N2.4 billion while in office between August 2009 – February 2016.
The Benue State born Orya was first arraigned by the EFCC in November 2021.
In the judgement delivered on Thursday February 5, 2026, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja , Justice Frances Messiri, sentenced Orya to ten years on each 49 count charges (490 years), with the terms to run concurrently.
Orya was found to have diverted bank funds through shell companies, including Luxurium Leisure Services Limited.
The court also found that Orya fraudulently induced the disbursement of loans, including ₦488 million to Treasure Mix Construction Limited, under false pretences.
