Customs, BAT sign pact to tackle illicit tobacco trade

He listed the seized items to include 3,310 jerrycans of 25-litre “Super Delicious” vegetable oil, 10 jerrycans of 10-litre “Super Delicious” vegetable oil, 20 cartons of 5-litre sunflower vegetable oil and 20 cartons of 3-litre sunflower vegetable oil.
Nigeria outperformed several major ports in the global improvement rankings, including France’s Marseille Port, which ranked 11th with a 39-point improvement; Türkiye’s Iskenderun Port, which placed 13th with a 34-point increase; and India’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port, which ranked 14th with a 32-point gain. Peru’s Paita Port occupied 15th position with 32 points, while China’s Keelung and Fuzhou ports shared 16th and 17th positions respectively, recording 27 points each.
“We must collectively build maritime capacity beyond borders. Sea-time training and practical exposure will position Nigerian and African youths to compete effectively in the international maritime space,” he said.
Emphasising on the theme, “From Policy to Practice” IMO said that the theme underscores IMO’s core mission of ensuring that the global regulatory framework it develops is not merely adopted in principle but translated into concrete national legislation, enforcement and day-to-day operations across the maritime sector.
The event, themed : “Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks,” will be marked on 25 June.

The NWS, an initiative of the Nigeria Customs Service, was launched in April, 2024, by President Bola Tinubu and implemented alongside the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and housed under the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) to streamline import and export procedures, reduce bottlenecks, and boost port efficiency.
Dantsoho cited projects including the $20 billion Simandou-Morebaya deep seaport project in Guinea, the $2 billion Port San Pedro project in Côte d’Ivoire, the $1.5 billion Lekki Deep Sea Port in Lagos, and a proposed $600 million investment by APM Terminals in Nigeria.
