A new tomato processing factory and farm expansion by the Spanish multinational group, GB Foods have been commissioned in Gafara, Ngaski Local Government of Kebbi State.
Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, commissioned the tomato Processing factory, weekend, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.
“I am happy that GB Foods is the largest tomato processing plant in Africa as it processes 2,400 metric tonnes of tomato per day, ” he said.
The company cultivates 1,500 hectares of tomato. It has 5,000 workers, 70 percent of whom are women. The tomato processing plant has capacity for 620 metric-tonnes per-day .
GB Foods plans to double the capacity of the plant in the next expansion phase. When completed, the farm and processing facility will be the biggest integrated tomato project in Africa.
The minister thanked the company for its belief in Nigeria, assuring that the president was ready to provide necessary support and encouragement to the factory.
Governor Idris requested the company to process its end products in the state without referral to Lagos State for processing.
“I urge you to remain dogged, and I call on other investors to endeavour to invest across the country.”
The Minister commended Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi for providing the necessary support and encouragement to the company which was initiated by former Governor, Atiku Bagudu, the current Minister of Budget and National Planning.
On his part, Governor Idris thanked Spain to have found the State worthy of the huge investment in the agricultural sector.
He assured that the state government would remain hospitable to all investors, assuring that the necessary enabling environment for businesses had been provided.
