Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu,commended the Philippine government for its support for Nigerian students and welcomed efforts to enhance their welfares.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, have the commendation during a meeting with the Philippine Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Mersole J. Mellejor.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in education, trade, investment, information technology, labour mobility, tourism, maritime affairs, and the creative industries.
A key highlight was the growing educational partnership between both countries, with Ambassador Mellejor revealing that about 9,000 Nigerian students are currently studying in the Philippines.
Both sides also explored opportunities in digital services, business process outsourcing, and trade, including the Philippines’ importation of Nigerian liquefied natural gas.
The meeting featured a commitment to deepen cooperation through existing bilateral frameworks and the forthcoming Nigeria-Philippines Joint Commission, while also strengthening Nigeria’s engagement with Southeast Asia.
